Different museums, monuments and commemorative events in Arnhem remind us of what happened in the city area during World War II. A very impressive place to visit related to this period is the War Cemetery in Oosterbeek (next to Arnhem), also known as Airborne War Cemetery. In this peaceful place rest 1759 brave young soldiers from the Second World War who came to join Operation Market Garden, but were killed during Arnhem’s liberation. A commemorative march and ceremony continues to be held annually in Arnhem and its surroundings. Also, do not miss the Airborne Museum, a nearby museum about the battle.
